    They say that young people are our future, and this guides our hearts and aspirations every day during the Whispering Ponies Ranch (WPR) life-changing therapy camps for children of abuse. Kids at WPR come from broken homes (and often much worse), having known extreme neglect, physical and mental abuse, violence, abandonment, and even the nightmare of being sex trafficked. WPR Camp employs screened, certified counselors who nurture these rescued kids through week-long restorative treatment, displayed through love and acceptance while teaching the necessary skills they will need to grow in confidence, healing, and survival after camp.  These kids come to believe they are beautiful on the inside, that they matter to us and God…and that HE has a plan for their lives…

  • Here Come The Camps… And A Jaunt Down Memory Lane

    Some of what I’m about to impress upon you might tug at a heartstring or two, but please understand that the purpose of this article is not to make anyone sad. It’s actually a praise report, so bear with me and keep reading.

  • Why These Kids Need God And Summer Camp At Whispering Ponies Ranch More Than Ever

    You slink out of bed in the morning in a sleepy but otherwise perfectly fine mood, brewing yourself a classic, American cup-o-joe like you normally do. Sitting down to your computer or television, you begin a quick surf through channels or online media while you blink the sleep out of your eyes. Initially intending nothing more than a casual check-in with the outside world before you report to work, a headline that you can’t ignore blasts its way across your screen, bombarding your senses and waking you up in the worst way: “Sex Trafficking Claims Younger Victims Every Day—Toddlers Are Common Among Victims.” The subtitle is equally disturbing: “Survival Rate Narrows Daily; Window to Find Missing Persons Now Only Eight Days.”

  • Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch…

    It’s hard to believe that summer is now behind us. I can still hear the happy-hearted flurry of children running to and from the fishpond, the horse arena, the swimming pool, the rock-climbing wall, and everything in between. That joyous, top-of-the-lungs “PIZZA” shout during their favorite meal of the week still echoes off the walls of the lunchroom, daily transforming a now-empty cafeteria into cheerful memories and the anticipation of their return. I can’t wait to see the crafts and games in the gym recommence; I look forward to watching the campers sing lots of fun songs, reenact memorable Bible stories, and put on puppet shows in the new chapel area. The activities are always such a blast for them, and the great success of sharing the Gospel with everyone of all ages during those weeks are the most rewarding feeling for everyone involved…

    Children as young as 9 years old are being bought and sold for sex in America with the average age of young girls being 13. Many people do not know that in addition to the no-cost retreat services Whispering Ponies Ranch provides Royal Family Kids Camps, Teen Reach, and select other special needs and rescue/rehabilitation charities, our staff of equine “whisperers” work with other restorative ministries and users nationwide to provide valuable miniature horses for equine therapy at no cost (does not include any Sponsored WPR ponies). THERAPY HORSES WE’VE GIFTED TO OTHER MINISTRIES

LISA MOAD FROM SEVEN OAKS FARM adopting ANGELHEART

When Lisa Moad came to hold a Miniature Horse Therapy Clinic here at WPR, She fell in love with an adorable little filly we named AngelHeart. We gifted AngelHeart to Lisa’s farm for future therapy adventures. Here is an update from Lisa Moad: “We are using her for children’s visits. She seems to have a keen attraction to the little ones and especially gentle with them. She also is used as a trainer horse. We use her as a buddy to the new ones that start training. Otherwise she is the mom to all the new babies coming in for training. She has an affinity for welcoming the new horses.”

TROUBLE now named TONY

Trouble foaled on September 11, 2009, Thus the name TROUBLE. He was recently gifted to a nearby Amish Farm for the kids.

THE BLUES BOYS, Salt & Pepper

This gentle set of siblings are full brothers and are trained to work individually or as a team. Salt & Pepper were gifted to Play Therapist Darren Dougherty in Texas for use in local Royal Family Kids Camps and his therapy work. Here is an update from Mr. Dougherty: “Hello Nita. Thanks for checking in with us. Yes, I will be using the horses in therapy with kids. I have a few new clients who are going to benefit greatly from Salt and Pepper. We will also have the boys at our Royal Family Kids Camp that takes place at our university. Each year we have 75-85 kids at camp. I founded the camp, but I am no longer the director. I handed it off to my assistant director a couple years ago. I now serve as the licensed counselor at camp, which will now include Salt and Pepper too. Next summer will be our daughter Christina’s first year to be eligible as a volunteer at our camp, where we first met her as a camper. It will be great to have her at camp for helping with Salt and Pepper too. I imagine that we will use the boys in a couple different ways, including cart riding. Regarding your other question about how many camps – for now, it is just our camp. We have been working with them, but we’ve not posted photos for some time. Please know that they are still doing well, and they are getting that fuzzy hair that you told us about.”

ONYX & GOLDIE gifted to Debbie Burke for Royal Family Kids Camp in Illinois

Here’s an update from Debbie: “We are in Oregon at the moment for the TRAC leadership conference. We are set to do two TRAC camps and RFKC [and] we are talking with other groups about sharing the horses…”

Sugar & Dixie

Sugar & Dixie recently retired and gifted to a slower pace. They are now located on a hillside on a local goat farm. They will be prominent fixtures in this foster home just a few miles from the ranch. Sugar and Dixie are the perfect horses to bring comfort to children who wil come and go and are jerked up at a moment’s notice and shuffled off to another place.
